Distance
from downtown: 25 km.
Distance from the airport: 15 km.
Nearby beaches: Matadeiro, Campeche e Morro
das Pedras.
Armação
beach has the air of a village and is one of the few remaining
locations where traditional fishermen coexist with the flow
of tourists and surfers.
Approximately
3.2 km of thin, white sand set the scenery of one of the most
beautiful beaches in the south of Florianópolis. The
northern corner is quite violent, the so called Caldeirão,
and is one of the favorite by the surfers. Walking southwards,
a calmer sea can be enjoyed, although the water remains quite
cool - a condition common to all beaches in the south of the
Island.
Like the
neighboring beach Matadeiro, Armação gets its
name from the whaling era on the coast of Santa Catarina.
With the exception of the names, there is nothing to remember
those times: today, the right whales are protected and tourist
operators run whale
watching excursions along Santa Catarina's coast.
There are restaurants open all year round in Armação,
as well as a variety of lodging options.
Don't
Miss:
- Armação's proximity to Lagoa do Peri Municipal
Park is an attraction of its own: there are several options
of trails and nature walks on its reservation.
- Armação has one of the oldest chapels in Santa
Catarina: the Church of Sant'Anna, founded in 1772. It is
a good excursion option for those who appreciate history and
culture.
- The boats for Campeche
Island, one of the most visited islands around Florianopolis,
set out from Armação.
