Distance from the center: 34 km.
Nearby beaches: Armação, Matadeiro
e Pântano do Sul.
Neighborhood: Pântano do Sul.
Lagoinha
do Leste is a true paradise: A deserted beach that has in
one place: a lagoon, waterfall, coasts and exuberant native
forestry.
One of
the last remaining corners of Atlantic Rain Forest preservation
in Florianopolis: Lagoa do Peri's Municipal Park was created
by law in 1992, comprising 4530 km2. There is no infrastructure
at all. The beach can only be accessed by foot or sea, however
caution is required due to the strength of the surf.
There
are two options for walking, each with advantages. The quickest
route takes approximately 1 hour and begins at Pantano do
Sul and winds through the forest and hills. This is the most
popular path. The ground is rocky and uneven, however the
walk is easy if you use caution. The climb is rewarded by
a dazzling panoramic view of Lagoinha do Leste.
The longer
alternative begins from Armacão, via Matadeiro and
follows a path from north to south along the shore at the
foot of the hills. The trip takes two and a half to three
hours, but is incredibly picturesque.
The scenery
holds breathtaking beauty; waves crashing on the rocks below,
the olhos d`água (meaning "eyes of water")
sprouting from the earth and the discreet company of the local
inhabitants: seagulls, birds, hawks, small rodents, lizards
and- very rarely - snakes (harmless if unbothered). Although
the trail is relatively safe, there is no harm in repeating
a valuable tip: watch where you put your feet. The growth
is tricky and thorny, which could cause a few scratches to
the careless.
Lagoinha
do Leste beach is a little over a kilometer long and faces
the open sea. Its limits are set by rocky coasts on both ends
and is ringed by hills covered with native vegetation. The
small lake from which it gets its name filled by a hydrographic
basin of small brooks that start in the forest. This natural
combination shelters a rich biodiversity.
Observation:
those who have had the privilege of seeing, on rare occasions,
the spectacle of the phosphorescent algae in Lagoinha, have
the scene forever etched in their memories. As if in a fantastic
dream, the water sparkles at even the slightest touch, and
the wet sand on its edges glows as night falls.
The park's
entire area is classified as one of "permanent preservation"
by law 3.701/92. Breaking up the soil, opening or prolonging
of roads, any form of construction, use of motor vehicles,
hunting of animals and collecting of plants are prohibited.
In Pantano do Sul, where the trail starts, there is a sign
from City Hall requesting visitors to bring their garbage
back and to avoid making fires. Many visitors, unfortunately,
have not heeded the request, leaving cans, bottles, plastic
bags, sandals, and all sorts of remains from their campouts.
Tips
- Take food and water, as the place does not have any infrastructure
at all.
-
Take all garbage you produce back with you, including cigarette
butts and other small pieces of trash. Take a plastic bag
with you specifically for this purpose.
-
Tennis shoes, light clothing, a hat, and sunscreen will guarantee
greater comfort during the walk.
-
Set out in the morning to be able to enjoy the day fully and
avoid the risk of walking back in the dark.
Don't
miss:
- It is possible to see some of the Island's beautiful scenery
along the trail. The route also hides countless natural beauties,
such as the Toca da Baleia (whale's den), a cave carved in
stone by the sea's pounding
